What's Namaste India?

Namaste India, starting from 1993 commemorates 15th anniversary this year. You can experience whole India. Having the Japan-India Business Cooperation Committee with its secretariat at Int'l Dept. of Japan Chamber of Commerce as a main organizer, Asia Club, former-JETRO, MOFA, India Tourism, Indo-Japanese Association and orther governmental organization as co-organizer, Namaste India, joined by Mithila Museum, Indian Cultural Communication Center, Japan-India Student Conference, and other grass-roots groups, has become one of the biggest Indian Festival in Japan.

The Secretarial was shifted to NPO Society to Promote Programs to Commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Establishment of Japan-India Diplomatic Relations (Renamed as NPO Society to Promote India-Japan Cultural Relations four years ago. With participation of the Embassy of India and affiliates of Namaste India, NPO Society to Promote India-Japan Relations, India Center, which started to join last year, and Executive Committee of Namaste India jointly plan and organize this Festival.

Along with development of the Festival, the venue of Namaste India, which provides opportunity to experience various Indian culture, has been shifted and expanded from Sumida City Hall, gallery at the beginning, Tsukiji Honganji Temple six years ago, to Yoyogi Park two years ago. With various programs, such as lectures, exhibitions, movies, dance, music, fashion show and try-out of saree, Indian restaurant and bazaar, tourism information and booklet, workshops, the Festival has entertained many people at home and abroad.

The Festival has become bigger, featuring IT, Indian tea, exhibition of Buddhist sites, which draw people's attention today.

Namaste India of this year is regarded as a main event of the India-Japan Friendship Year.

Fund

Fund raised through entry fee of participating stalls, financial support of companies, and advertisement fee.




Enjoyable events

At the stage, about 10 various programs "to see" and "to listen" will entertain visitors. Eg. Indian dance including Bangla, and music, UP folk dance and music, etc.

In the zone of "eat" and "buy", 17 Indian restaurants and 20 to 30 stalls of goods await visitors.

This year's Namaste put a lot of focus on "to know" and "to experience" zone. In addition to the stage, Indian business leaders from IT companies will deliver lectures.

We have a big lottery sponsored by Air India. Winners can get air tickets and other prizes. Pls. come and join the Festival together with your family and friends.
